Langtang Gosainkund Trek Overview

Langtang and Gosainkund Trek combines two popular destinations of the Langtang region: Langtang Valley and the Gosainkund Lake. This 12-day trek to Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda Lake offers great views of the Himalayan peaks, Tamang ethnic cultural heritages, alpine lifestyle, and unparalleled experiences.

Gosaikunda is a prominent alpine freshwater lake in the Langtang region—holy for Hindus—where each year thousands of devotees trek just to bath in this Holy Lake believing that a dip into this lake will wash away their sins. It is situated at an altitude of 4,380/ 14,370 ft meters above sea level. Gosaikunda Lake is believed to have been created by Lord Shiva when he thrust his Trishula (trident) into a rock boulder to extract water while he was wandering in search of water after swallowing poison. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosaikunda Basin, with three major, namely Saraswatikunda, Bhairabkunda, and Gosaikunda. Overflow water from the lake is popularly known as the Trishuli River.

The trek starts from Syabrubensi to the Langtang Valley, first offering an opportunity to hike to a viewpoint to view the majestic mountain peaks. Then you walk back to Syabru village and climb to the lake, which is a challenging hike in the arid alpine landscape. The trek offers views of the Himalayan peaks including Langtang Lirung 7,234 m/ 23,734 ft, Langtang Ri 7,205 m/ 23,638 ft, Langsisa Peak 6,427 m/ 21,086 ft, Yala Peak 5,520 m/ 18,110 ft, Ganjala Peak, west of the Himal Chuli (7,893 m/ 25,896 ft), Manaslu (8,156 m/ 26,758 ft), and Ganesh Himal (7,406 m/ 24,298 ft) and ranges.
